The horsehead nebula (IC 434) is a dark nebula superimposed on a reflection nebula behind it. It is notoriously difficult to see in an amateur scope, so although my image is faint, I was pleased to be able to photograph it at all. The brighter nebula NGC 2023 lies to the lower left of the horsehead.
